What this site is, and what it is not.
Short version: this site is general information, an instruction only exists once it is confirmed in writing, and an expert's conclusions are never for sale. The clauses below set that out properly.
This site is information, not advice
Everything published here — including the report standards guide — describes general practice. It is not legal advice, and it is not an opinion on any case. Procedural requirements change, and they must be confirmed for the forum and date in question.
Nothing on this site should be relied on as a substitute for advice from a qualified representative in the relevant jurisdiction.
When an instruction begins
Sending a form, an email, or a document does not create an instruction, a retainer, or any duty on our part. An instruction begins only when we confirm in writing the expert, the scope, the report standard, the deadline, and the fee — and it is governed by those written terms, not by this page.
We may decline an instruction, including where we cannot source the country evidence properly, where the deadline cannot be met to standard, or where the scope would compromise the expert's independence.
Independence and outcomes
Reports are prepared as independent expert evidence. The duty runs to the court or tribunal, and the conclusions are the expert's own — they cannot be directed, edited toward a preferred result, or withheld because they are unhelpful to the instructing party.
For that reason we give no guarantee as to the outcome of any application, appeal, or hearing, and no undertaking that a report will be admitted or given any particular weight.
Use of this site and our material
You may read, quote, and link to material on this site with attribution. Text, structure, and design remain ours.
Reports and other deliverables are licensed to the instructing party for the proceedings for which they were prepared. Use in other proceedings, publication, or supply to a third party requires our written agreement, since context affects what the evidence can properly support.
External sources and links
We cite external sources — legislation, judgments, country reporting — and link to them where they are publicly available. We do not control that material and are not responsible for its content or availability.
Liability
We take care over what is published here, but the site is provided as-is: we do not warrant that it is complete or current, and we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on it. Liability for work we are actually instructed on is dealt with in the engagement terms for that instruction.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
